Intro

Russ Reed has been painting for 30 years and is especially interested in stories of transformation. His major creative influences include many of the baroque era artists, especially Rembrandt, Rubens, and Zurbarán. More contemporary influences are Goya and the small portraits of Lucian Freud.

Russ’s modern baroque paintings extend the understanding of the ancient narratives into the reality of our present day. This focus also places Russ in the continuum of centuries of figural and narrative artists.

When not painting, Russ enjoys hanging out with his six wonderful children and their families, listening to jazz, and occasionally exploring the national parks with his wife Terri.
